The Work Behind the Work
I didn’t come to bodywork because I believed massage was simply about relaxation.
I came to understand the body as something far more complex, resilient, and deserving of our attention.
For nearly two decades, I’ve had the privilege of working with people whose bodies carry a lot, whether that comes from demanding work, physical training, injury, stress, trauma, aging, or simply the accumulated wear and tear of living in the body we have.
Over the years, my work has continued to evolve. I’ve pursued training in therapeutic massage, myofascial work, assisted stretching, Thai massage, aromatherapy, Reiki, Qigong, pelvic floor rehabilitation, trauma-informed care, and other approaches that have expanded the way I understand the human body.
But the most important thing I’ve learned cannot be found in a certification.
Listen.
Listen to the person in front of you. Listen to the history their body is carrying. Listen to what changes when you slow down, what happens when you approach an area differently, and what the body is communicating beneath the obvious complaint.
That has become the foundation of my practice.
I don't believe in forcing the body into submission, chasing pain simply because it hurts, or promising that one technique will fix everything. Bodies are individual, complicated, and constantly adapting. What works beautifully for one person may be entirely wrong for another.
Good bodywork requires knowledge, experience, observation, and hands that know how to respond. It also requires humility.
Sometimes the answer is focused therapeutic work. Sometimes it is movement. Sometimes it is creating enough space for an overworked nervous system to finally settle. Sometimes the best thing we can do is slow down and give the body time to respond.
My role isn't to tell your body what it should do.
My role is to listen, help you understand what I'm finding, and work with you toward what you want your body to be able to do.
That distinction matters to me.
Because the people who come through my door aren't just bodies with problems to solve. They are people with lives to get back to.
A service member who needs to keep moving.
A first responder whose body never seems to get a chance to come down from the job.
A veteran learning how to live in a body that has changed from sacrifices made.
An athlete asking more from their body than most people ever will.
A parent carrying everyone else's needs.
Someone who has spent years being told that pain is simply something they have to live with.
Or someone who simply wants to feel more comfortable, capable, and at home in their own body.
I don't promise miracles.
What I do promise is that I will pay attention.
I will be honest about what I find. I will respect your boundaries and your experience. I will bring everything I have learned through years of study and practice to the table, while remembering that you are the expert on your own body.
This is why I practice.
Not to make people perfect.
Not to chase some impossible version of “peak performance.”
But to help people move through their lives with a little more comfort, a little more capacity, and a little more connection to the body that carries them through it all.
Listen to the Body. Work With It.
That is the work.
And it is a privilege to do it.
